Summer Movies? Where?

I walked outside today to a feeling that I hadn't felt in a long time, warmth. That's right, I can't remember the last time it was warm in Indiana. It seems like it has been one of the coldest, longest winters ever. Even when I went to my Grandma and Grandpas condo in Florida a few weeks ago it wasn't warm. 66 degrees has never felt better.

Anyway, as I felt the warmth touch my body, I started to think about summer, which led to me to thinking about summer movies, and so I figured I would share what movies I am most looking forward too seeing this summer. I went to my good friend, the internet, and checked to see what movies were coming out, and I was very disappointed. The only movie I am really looking forward to seeing is Iron Man 2. Next on the list would probably be The Last Airbender, and that's only because my brothers watched that cartoon. That's all I could find.

Am I the only one who is disappointed by this years summer movie selections? Are their any I'm missing? Please let me know, and let me know what movie your most excited for.

An Oscar Recap... Sort of

And the winner is...

A pretty much predictable Oscar night. Not really anything big to talk about. Jeff Bridges won best Actor, Sandra Bullock won best Actress, and Hurt Locker won best picture, and a bunch of other winners that no one really cares about.

It's really annoying to have to sit and watch three hours of blah, just to get to the fifteen minutes that really matter. Although, I thought Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were great hosts, I wanted more of them. I don't want to hear who won best sound mixer, I want Steve and Alec to make jokes about James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow (I thought that joke about Kathryn sending James a bomb, and James sending her a Toyta was pretty amazing).

I'm trying to scrap my brain for any moments that stood out to me... I thought Robert Downey Jr. and Jennifer Lopez bit on writers and actors was funny (My little brother asked me if Jennifer's dress was made of bubble wrap). For some reason Oprah was there, talking about that one girl who played in that one movie that I had never heard of. Seriously, was Precious even in theaters? Did I mention that there wasn't enough of Steve and Alec? There was one part, (I think it was right before they went to a commercial, but I could be wrong on that) where they started playing some music and they showed a shot of George Clooney and he started bopping his head. It was funny seeing the masked disappointment on James Cameron's face when Avatar didn't win best picture. Even though I was pulling for Avatar to win that award, it wasn't a huge deal to me, but I really liked Avatar, and I wasn't a huge fan of The Hurt Locker. I like how that Mo'nique girl said she won for "her performance, not the politics"... What does that mean?  Oh, Steve and Alec's parody of Paranormal Activity was hilarious, my little brothers could not stop laughing. And then some crazy, red haired lady pulled a Kanye on us and jumped up on stage and tried to steal the mic when the directory for best documentary short was giving his speech. I have no idea what she was saying, or what she was doing, but she looked scary. And then Ben Stiller dressed like a Na'vi, not sure what to make of that.

But, nothing grand to talk about. No one fell walking up the stairs for their acceptance speech, no one dropped there naked man award, no one got into any fights. All in all, it was something to watch.

The Wheel of My Time

Book 11 complete. Onward to book 12.

The Wheel of Time, a soon to be 14 book series is what I have been reading for the past... 3 years? Maybe 4? I'm not sure. But I do know that I am really late to the series, since the first book, "The Eye of the World", came out in 1990, two years before I was born.

There are 12 books out, and 2 more on the way. If you want to read up on what the series is about, go read it's Wikipedia page. I don't feel like trying to summarize it myself, call me lazy :)

Anyway. The Author of this series, Robert Jordan, passed away 3 years ago at the age of 58. Before he could finish book 12 (A Memory of Light), and what would be the final book of the series. His wife and editor, Harriet picked Brandon Sanderson to finish the series based on notes that Robert Jordan had left behind. While Brandon was working on book 12, he decided that their was to much stuff left to fit into one more book, so they split it to 3 more books, "The Gathering Storm", "Tower of Midnight", "A Memory of Light" (not the first time this has happened, since this was originally supposed to be a trilogy).

Ok, now I think I have laid out a little bit of the back story on what all this is. Now, I really love this series, it shows the true nerdy side of me. I came across these books around 3 years ago when I was in a dallor store in Michigan and found book 10, "Crossroads of Twilight", on sale their. We were going to be heading home to Indiana and so I figured I would buy it so I could have something to do on the ride back. I didn't realize this was the 10th book of the series, needless to say I wasn't able to read the book.

Once I got home I decided to go to my library and search for book 1. I found it, got it, read it, and as I mentioned before, I fell in love with it. For the next few years I read through books 1-9, and finally I arrived to book 10, the book I bought in Michigan 2 years ago. Before I say this, please know, I love these books. But book 10 is very slow and little to nothing happens for the story line. I stopped half way through, and forgot about it for a year.

One year later as I am in a Barnes and Noble in a fantasy section, I see the cover of a book that looked really familier, but I have never seen before. It looked like a Wheel of Time cover, I edged closer to the book so I could read the title, "The Gathering Storm, book 12 of The Wheel of Time".

This excited me, I had completely forgotten about this series. It encouraged me to finish the book I had stopped reading a year ago. This, however, was very difficult to do, as I mentioned before it is really slow and little to nothing happens, but also trying to remember who people are, what they are doing, and what places are called. It is a huge series, trying to remember everything was a pain. But, by the grace of God was able to finish. It probably helped that I was in Florida visiting my grandparents. There is not a lot to do at my grandparents condo, and it was cold, IN FLORIDA! After I finished book 10,  I went to the Barnes and Noble in Florida and found book 11, "Knife of Dreams", on sale for $5.99, no less! Read it, loved it, and now I am here writing this.

Thus ends the reveting story that is, "Mitchell Gaston and his journey reading The Wheel of Time". Hopefully I will start reading book 12 this weekend. The reasoning behind me doing this long story about my reading of these books is because I was planning on reviewing book 12 (and 13 and 14 when they come out) and doing some more blogs on the series, so I figured I would set up what they were before I did that. Hopefully I didn't kill anyone from boredom.

What's Going To Happen Here

I have decided that I am going to be spending more time on this blog, and I have worked out a schedule that I hope I will follow.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday I will have a new post, and I might occasionally have a random post every now and then, something small that I feel I need to share on any random day, probably weekends. But Monday, Wednesday, Friday will be the main days. I will also try on Fridays to post a podcast along with the blog post, but that probably won't be an every week thing, since I want to try to get some of my friends involved on that, so it will probably depend on their schedule.

Things I will cover on this blog: Anything from Sports, News, my past, my future, me. It will depend on what mood I'm in :)

I hope you will check back in and read what I have to say, or possibly listen. And maybe you will enjoy it. Maybe.

Thank you.

Alone

I lay down and listen to the nothing that surrounds my room. Enjoyable. In days that I'm surrounded by people, it is my greatest love to be alone. Alone is what I love.
